The Warm Coat Program is BACK!
Over the last fifteen years, the Warm Coat Program has received and distributed more than 6,000 coats and jackets to the needy in our area at no charge. Our supply is exhausted and we need your help! Please search through your closets and contribute any coats and jackets that are clean and useable. Children’s and women’s coats are the most requested. You may deliver these to Mission Outreach at 901 East Lake Street and we will see that they are given to those in need. Thank you!
“The impersonal hand of government can never replace the helping hand of a neighbor.”
Hubert Humphrey
We give thanks for the congregations of All Saint’s Episcopal Church, Hillcrest Church of Christ, New Haven Baptist and the men of Mount Zion Baptist who have all gone the extra mile to serve their neighbors here at the mission recently. We count them among our blessings!
We are also thankful for Suzette Davidson and the Arkansas Academy of Hair Design students for their gift of good grooming for our residents. Over a two day period they washed, cut and styled 20 of our resident’s hair.
A “new do” always lifts our self-esteem, and we are most grateful this donation of time and talent.
Prayer Request
Two of our residents are currently hospitalized. One male resident underwent surgery and has been hospitalized for the better part of the last five weeks. Internal bleeding and complications with his intestinal tracts are issues. Another male resident has chronic heart problems and needs surgery, but his heart cannot withstand the stress. He is in critical condition and on the transplant list for a new heart. Please keep these men in your prayers.
THANK YOU for your faithful donations to our soup kitchen!
We give out an average of 285 food boxes each month, and are excited about the city wide food drive to stock our pantry beginning November 16th. However, with over 23,000 meals served so far this year in the soup kitchen, we always have needs to be met in that area too. Each week we provide a list of items that can easily be picked up while out shopping for your family. Below is a list of items our cooks have requested at this time:
Creamy peanut butter
Eggs
Velveeta cheese
Cabbage
Canned mushrooms
Items that are always needed:
Sugar
Self-rising flour
Self-rising cornmeal
Cooking oil
Jelly
Canned fruit
We invite you to be a voice for the mission.
Would you help us get the word out to everyone you know that National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is November 16th – 22nd? Make a plan to get involved! The Mayor is issuing a city-wide challenge to collect food for the mission. We hope every church, every Sunday school class, every school, every student, every civic group, every club member, every business, every employee; every individual in our community will participate in this food drive. We will be collecting items all day at City Hall on Friday, November 21st. Let’s fill that flatbed trailer full to overflowing! If you plan to drop off your donations mid-day you can join us for Soup or Salad in the Council Room at City Hall.
Thank you again for your support of Mission Outreach!
